Hi MeTom. A native speaker would say: Thank you (very/so much) or Thanks (a lot), Hieu Phu Quoc. Hope this helps. Cheers, Hieu
do you think we shoud start a specific topic right now? for example "how to protect yourself when you're on the taxi, just only you and the driver"
I think "how to protect yourself and avoid taxi scams" is better idea to emphasize the main problem Because "just only you and driver" is not problem. In my opinion, things that people want to prevent from taxi drivers are cheat, bandit, sexual harassment or they try to go a long way so we have to pay more unecessary money, etc. Therefore, when we issue a topic, it must present the main idea/problem that we want to discuss. Moreover, we don't use "the taxi" and "the driver" in this case because the article "the" means you pretty sure that readers know exactly this taxi or driver.
Thank to Minh Liberi for correcting my mistakes. What you've said is exactly what I thought, but my English is not good enough to express the idea. I've read one of your comment on other thread, found that your toeic score is 790, that's great. I took the exam last year, too, and only got a score of 735. I know it's not really present my English level. In all consicience, i need practice more and more to control this language
How about an offline we can throw to improve speaking English skill?. I'm going to take a Toeic test next 3 months and the score you got make me admire. Would you mind to share your practice experience?
Thank you for your advice!. I think I have a long way to go. I almost express my thought with simple words that I knew and I'm still trying to learn more vocabulary everyday.
I think the idea of holding an offline discussion is perfect because we will have chance to make friends and practice English. About Toeic test, it pays attention to input skills (listening and reading) so you have a lot of works to do with your lexicon and grammar. If you are beginner, you should listen to English sitcom/shows or news to be familiar with this languages. However, you should listen to something which has text/script. You don't have to understand everything at the first time, but you should remember that you try to listen, not to stare in subtitle all the time. With vocabulary, you can use workbooks such as "Training for super memory of vocabulary" (Anh Đức - Ben Williams). This is compiled specially for TOEIC lexicon. With grammar, you should read rules and do exercises in Grammar in Use (Raymond Murphy) new edition from at least 2006 until now. It's just some information. If you want to know more details, you can leave me some questions and I will try to answer in my possible ability later
Your direction is useful to me. When i try to do an online Toeic test, i got the problems with part 3 and part 4 that is the dialogues which hard to catch their words. Well, I could understand what are they saying but I immediately forgot when answer the questions.
Hi... Hiếu
My pleasure. For everyone, there's always room for improvement. I'm not an exception. I'm impressed by your everyday efforts. All the best, Hieu
Hi, I'm learning on my own so sometime my drive is up and down. I mean I always have to motivate myself. If you get success in learning English this way, as well. You wouldn't mind to share your experience?. I see a lot of video on youtube but which is the best material to take?
The "up and down" thing is pretty normal because we are human. I started with VOA special English (slow) and tried to repeat words and sentences like the reporter. Then I moved on with VOA News (very fast). You can try Friends series or Extra on DVD or files. There are many useful resources on Youtube but you need to go deep down and ask yourself "in what field, do I want to become best at English?"what is the level of proficiency that I want to get in two, three...six months?" "With what materials, can I excel the fastest?" It seems theoretical but when you have identified your reasons to go ahead in spite of difficulty and what techniques you find the most useful, you only have one challenge left: Start and Finish your learning plan. I can assure you there is no single best material. What's useful to you doesn't have to be wonderful to others and vice versa. So know yourself. Start your plan. Improve it. Finish it. Celebrate it. Oh yeahhhhhh? Cheers, Hieu
