Topic 18: Do you agree that modern technology has given us more leisure time than before?

Day after day, people can see the rapid development of technology. It goes without saying that this development brings them many benefits and the most significant one is that it helps people work more quickly and fluently. However, I think I would have to say that people now have less free time than they used to have.

Of course, at first you can find it difficult to understand that argument, so I would like to present three explanations to confirm that I am right.

In spite of giving many favorable conditions for people to work more easily, modern technology, on the other hand, makes people use time for many other activities and services it providing. To illustrate this idea, I give you some popular activities, they are playing games, surfing the web,… It is one of reasons that people is becoming more busy over time.

There is a further more subtle point we must consider. When the technology is developing, people have to learn how to use that for their job and that is very neccesary. In addition, they must improve their understanding to be appropriate with the fast-paced world. In another way, they must spend a lot of time for learning and studying.

There is another factor that deserves some words here . If people used to spend time for meeting friends and relatives, nowaday they are very rely on modern mediums of communication. They can update news about someone via the Internet or telecommunications. People get used to connecting with others by calling, using messages, joining in a lot of forums or utilising some social networks such as facebook, twitter,… Because of this cause, people do not concern about spending spare time with others around them and it takes them about almost time to do many things involving modern technology at the moment.

Once you have known all of these, you must agree with me that at the present time people are so busy and have less leisure time because of the development of modern technology.

Topic 22: Many people are optimistic about the 21st century and expect scientists to make positive changes to the world. To what extent do you agree or disagree with their optimism? What changes would you like to see in the new century?

No one can deny a lot of achievements science and technologies have brought to human. It is true that new technologies are continuously created everyday to meet people’s needs in the modern life. Therefore, I quite agree with numerous people who have a positive outlook on the current century and believe that scientists and researchers will make our world better.

We should feel glad and proud to be born in the modern age when the scientific and technological revolution is dominating in every corner of the world. Obviously, looking at roughly 100 years back – the era of machines, people’s life was not support as adequately as today and there were dozens of unsolved problems and unanswered questions. However, it is the fact that science today has found the keys for many issues of the previous century so there is no reason that makes us not believe in the ultimate development of the world in the new century. On the other hand, people are awaiting new initiatives and discoveries in every field of life and science which can satisfy human’s needs and make constructive changes to our world. No one can affirm whether people’s expectations will become real or not and the answer is definitely dependent on the time but we have every reason to believe in the better things in the future.

That would be great if we can witness everything we desire will become the truth. For me, an equal and fair world where there is no poor people and no struggle and everyone has happy life is my wish. However, everything has its good sides and bad sides and it is too hard to achieve a real balance and justice in the world. Although this is undeniable, our world is able to be virtually perfect if everybody has a fine outlook on the life and gives up their rapacity and ambition and selfishness to help others and the world better.

In conclusion, lots of people have faith in many good things the 21st century will bring to them and believe that science and technology will drive the world in a good way. Although only a ten of the century has passed, we have witnessed a world changing strongly day by day and we can have confidence in a better future of mankind.

Topic 26: Some people think that radio has become out-of-date, and there is no need to listen to the radio for entertainments and news. Do you agree or disagree?

With the advance of technology, there are a rising number of people who have raised doubts about whether listening radio is requisite or not because more and more people would like to relax and update news by cell phone or computers rather than by radio. I do strongly support the idea that radio will not be outdated in the near future.
There are numerous reasons why radio will be still a prevalent media in the future. The first reason that can be seen by every person is, the advantages of radio are extremely useful for a lot of people who have no occasion to use laptop or mobile phone. For instance, when driving car or being on bus, you still can afford to listen to radio in order to update immediately information about forecast, sports, economy and cultures. On the other hand, it is absolutely helpful for blinders who cannot use other technological equipments to get news and entertain. In fact, thanks to radio many people feel that they are not a burden of their family and society as sometimes they can find appropriate jobs.
The second thing that must be taken into consider is nowadays, many electronics such as cell phone, smart phone, i-pad, tab, computer and others are usually integrated a function as a radio. There fore, it is not complicated to use it to bring up to date regardless where you are being. In fact that, some well-known public service broadcasters in the world like BBC or CNN was, being and will continue develop. Obliviously, it is not said that they will be faced imminent dissolution.
Finally, the incomparable advantage of this view is, a number of programs on radio are sharply improved day by day to adapt to higher, more rigorous preferences of audiences. In fact that, many shows on radio have a high interaction which is in no way inferior to television even if some of them are better. Hence, it really stimulates auditors to participate in those programs.
Based on the above discussion and analysis, along with the development of science and technology, more and more modern electrics as an aid in bring up to date, communicating as well as entertaining are developed and upgraded. Nevertheless, it seems that radio broadcasting will incessantly play an entirely critical role which cannot be substituted by others in our lives.

Topic 23: Many employees may work at home with modern technology. Some people claim that it benefits only workers, but not employers. Do you agree or disagree?

No one can list all the benefits science and technology has brought to mankind’s world. In fact, the development of technology today is contributing more and more in simplifying human’s life. Therefore, working at home with sophisticated facilities is no longer a far-away dream of dozens of people. I totally disagree with the idea that this is only profitable for employees but not employers. Both of they should get benefits from this.

First of all, for workers, not having to go to work gives them many advantages. For instance, instead of spending their time going to the workplaces, they can do many other useful activities such as bring the children to school or doing the housework or merely continuing their sleep. Besides, they will save a lot of money for not having to buy fuel for their cars to drive to the office. Furthermore, working at home seems not to be as stressful as at the office because people can do everything they want and are not supervised by anyone and they only have to make sure that they complete their work before the deadline. Actually, the work will be easier with the support of high-tech machines.

Secondly, employers will also get benefits if their employees work at home. Because of giving away workers’ moving costs, they can lower the wages so their profit will increase a lot. On the other hand, they can reduce the number of offices they are renting and this saves them much money. Moreover, they do not have to face with any struggle between their staff at the company so their management seems to be simpler.

In conclusion, in my viewpoint, that employees work at home with modern facilities is a good thing for them and their bosses. Although some people argue that this is advantageous for workers only, it may profit employers in some aspects.

The table shows the percentage of young men and women in Tokyo, Japan listening to four types of music over the previous month, with the pie chart indicating whether they prefer live or recorded music. It can easily be seen from the table that, male tend to be dominant in the first three types of music. For example, the vast majority (79%) of people listening MP3-players belong to men, but the same type women account for smaller proportion (40%). Similarly, male continue to prevail significantly when making up 60% of those on live music and 55% on Internet, while the proportion of female just range between 42% and 44%. Nevertheless, CDs seems to be more popular with female (22%) than male (19%). It is clear from the pie chart that live music is rated as a popular kind of music among the majority of young Japanese people, with a massive 70% from both groups stating which music they prefer.

The table provides a breakdown by selected music accesses surveyed in Tokyo, with the pie chart indicating the worldwide preference of live and recorded music among young people.

According to the table, males showed a much stronger interest in music than their female counterparts, except for the attraction to CDs, for which 19% males and 22% females voted respectively. As for live music, MP3-players and online music, girls' interests remained roughly balanced, with none of the figures higher than three quarters. By contrast, boys' preference of music access varies noticeably. Nearly four out of five boys voted for MP3-players, followed by 60% for live music, and slightly more than half boys enjoyed online music.

With regard to the pie chart, the inclination of live and recorded music saw a striking difference. A clearly 70% of the total preferred recorded music to live music, whereas more than one fourth favored the latter more. There were only a tiny minority of four percent respondents were still wrestling with their choice.

In conclusion, in Tokyo, boys' passion in music was much more prominent than girls', and the recorded music enjoyed an overwhelming popularity as the data presented globally.

The table indicates the different selections of male and female who are young people in Tokyo, Japan about what kind of way they listened music over the month before. Life wise, the pie chart provides the music hobbies of people if they liked live or recorded music.
As can be seen from the table, two sexes have different music type choice to listen. Take for example, just under eighty per cent of people who like MP3-players are male, but the same sex group, it’s only accounted for a tiny minority (19 per cent) of people who feel likely CDs. It’s also in this group, the percentage people love live music 60 per cent, and it’s 55 per cent of people often listening music in the internet. Although, the people make up 22 per cent of those on CDs, in the male group, it’s equal percentage of people who enjoy live music, MP3-music and music in the internet: 44, 40 and 42 per cent respectively.
It is clear from the pie chart that the majority (70 per cent) of young people who like live music. Nevertheless, under a third is percentage of people who prefer record to live music. Beside the proportion of people don’t know what they want is 4 per cent.

The table provides the percentage of how young Japanese living in Tokyo, listened to music for over one month, with the pie chart showing whether they prefered live or recorded music.

It is clear from the pie chair, the mafority( 70 per cent) of people like live record and the percentage of people liking recorded music is smaller than this, it is only 26 percent.. the remainder is 4 percent of people don’t know what they want.

According to the table, male and female have different kind of way they listened to music. For example, for man, the percentage of people used mp3-players is biggist, it is 79 percent. However, it is 44 per cent, which is percentage of female love live music. By contrast, a tiny minority of peoleo listened to music by Cds, proportion of male is 19 per cent and it's 22 per cert of female.
Furthermore, the proportion of listening to live music, using Mp3 -player and Internet of male is many than this of female. For instance, the percentage of male listing music in the internet is 55 per cent and it is only 42 per cent of female used the internet.

The table presents information about the tendency listened to music of young people in Tokyo, Japan over the previous month. And the preference live or recorded music is shown in the pie chart.
From the figures of the table, the amount of young male listened live music, MP3 player is dominate with 79% young male likes to listen MP3 player, 60% young male enjoys listening to live music. Listening music in the Internet and CDs have the number of using young male less than other kinds (55% and 19%).
With young female in Tokyo, Japan, They tend to interested in live music, PM3 player and Internet music but this is less than the young male do. The percentages of young female liked to listen to live music, MP3 player and Internet player are similar: 44%, 40% and 42%. The only listening to music on CDs is low with 22%.
From the statistics of the pie chart, the trend is that the young people would prefer to listen to live music rather than listen to recorded music. the people likes to listen to live music accounted for 70%, the other is interested in recorder music.
In conclusion, in Tokyo, boys' passion in music was much more prominent than girls', and the recorded music enjoyed an overwhelming popularity as the data presented globally.

It can be clearly seen that young male listen music more popular than female. Take an example, the vast of majority of male like listening music by MP3-players while this number of female just only 40 percent. Furthermore, male continue dominant when sixty percent of them favour live music and more a half often listen music on the internet. Meanwhile, these rates of Japanese female are respectively 44% and 42%. Contract, more female than male choose CDs as favourite listening music way. It is clear from the pie chart that almost young Japanese people prefer live music (70%) than recorded music (26%). Only a tiny minority (4%) of people don’t know what they really like.
